HEY, HEY !!!
so this is my digital rough. i already went through the process of how i arrange the symbols and looked them up in different dingbat-fonts. i am still experimenting with the colors. i picked up the suggestion here on the blog to desaturade the symbols to create a bigger contrast to the MIKA and the giginformation. therefore i used a light grey layer and played a bit with the transparency. i will see how the grey layers turn out when printed. maybe i have to adjust them in their saturation.
as the outer circle of symbols does not refer to the artists life i did not color it and i like the effect that this kind of creates a frame. to create more unity four inner symbols also are in black.
i think, like the direction i am heading to, but i am still not completely sure if i want to go with these colors.
have a good weekend! :)

Hey Eva,
I think your poster is turning out really great. I agree with your decision and reasoning for making the outer symbols black. I also really like the way you mixed the letters in “MIKA” with different lower and uppercase lettering. Is there a specific reason you made the “I” a different color? (I think it works well, I’m just curious)
I think you should try reducing the size of the gray box behind the artist’s name and gig info. Really, the font and colors you chose are so bold in comparison to the symbols, I think the name could stand alone and pop out even more without the gray box. If you reduced it only to the gig info it might help differentiate the info from the background. But, as I said, I feel like the gray behind “MIKA” takes away from its vibrancy.
I think this look fantastic! I agree with Gil however. I'd try making the gray box over the info only. The colors for Mika really stand out already and don't need something to help it pop more.
The outer symbols work well just black while the others are in bright colors. I also love that the symbols tell a story! (I over heard you and Sciacca talking about it).
It might be interesting to do your info with no gray box and use that orange for it, but make it slightly lighter.
It would be really cool to see what different color combinations look like on this poster. You might also try making the box a little darker, so it looks like the info is interrupting the symbols a little more. Or you could make it just include the extra info, like someone said above. You could even put an imperfect box of color behind the symbols, like the way Gil's poster looks like the edge was torn or something.
It's looking great, Eva. I'd definitely ditch the box. The visual differences between the symbols and the text is all the differentiation that you need. I'd also consider flip-flopping the date/time with the venue. And then, instead of the gray box aligning with your grid, you could let your text align?
I'm not sure how I feel about the black symbols all the way around. I think it would be just as strong if all the symbols were bright colors. Or maybe if you pushed the black back to a middle gray?
I like the font you chose for "MiKa". On the other hand, I don't know if the font used for the smaller text really goes with the theme. It looks a little too much like something a bank would use for some reason. I like the idea of using all these different symbols a lot, and I think most of the colors you've chosen work well together. I actually think the least successful combination is the MiKA part, where the grey box and purple and orange letters just don't work for me. I think if you got rid of the grey box, it would be easier to read and it would make the colors look better.
