your idea is funny but personally i feel a little bit cheesy, too. i mean, your profession is to kill animals and to me the halo is like you say: we kill these, but they will be in a better place then... i don't know...
maybe it is the mouse? a lot of people think they are actually cute and/or even have them as pets... so i don't know if it awakes the right feelings for the viewer... more so the bad conscious, i think. whereas no one likes cockroaches! with a cockroach in comicstyle (i think the one in "wall-e" looks cool) and a halo it would be way funnier for me.
i was wondering why you chose an medieval looking type for the word "cross" and combined it with an (in comparison) modern san-serif. it does not really work for me...
I agree there is something not really working for me in this design, but I have a couple suggestions. The mouse could be sort of cute if he was really small, and the letters were much larger and more stylized. A giant pest is kind of gross, but if it were smaller in comparison to the letters I think it would add elegance to the business. It would also help not to have too much gray because it conflicts with the green and the letters. You could try just outlining the mouse or whatever you decide to use.
I like the idea of a mouse and cloud floating. and know you are working more on this. i think maybe having a mouse logo, but not a full drawn in mouse...say like an outline drawn figure to make the logo a bit more simpler to go along with the cloud more too. i know we will discuss these more in person though for other opinionssssss
