So I have several different designs, all using the lotus flower as the central logo, then different combinations of logotype. So far this is 3 colors, black, purple & green, plus the lighter tones to create some depth. I modeled the flower design on a more traditional tattoo, which is why it is so boldly outlined and shaded. The font inside the flower also related to a typical tattoo lettering font.
In contrast I tried to use a non-serifed font for the logotype. Right now I am playing with Lucida Sans, Verdana, Lithos Pro - top left, and Papyrus (which I am not sure if this is a normal graphic design font, but I sort of like the way it works with my logo - bottom right.)
I kept the lotus petals more triangular, but still organic, as I plan to do some die cutting with parts of my package design, and I think the petals will have a strong, recognizable outline. I may still play around with the colors, but I think this is the general design I want to go for. I tried a few different fonts inside the flower, but I think the bottom 2 styles work best. I am leaning towards the more "gothic" font, but I like the roundness of the other one as well. I know the logos turned out kinda small in posting, but the original are much bigger!

Veronica, firstly I'd like to say that you have done some fabulous work and this just amazes me. I think you have progressed so far from the beginning of class!
I really like the blue lotus flower better than the purple. I think it blends nicer and I feel it relates better with "black lotus botanicals" since it's a darker color.
I know that the font you chose is like typical tattoo font, but I'm not sure it works so well here. I think I prefer the lotus flower without any lettering on it. It's such a bold and beautiful design alone, I think the lettering takes away from that.
If you do keep the lettering on the lotus flower however, I might suggest a little bit of a lighter font? Like more readable and less swirly since it is for packaging. I think the people buying the product will understand what you are implying but it will be easier to read.
As for your other font, I like the papyrus, but I think it could be cool if you traced over the letters and used the same shapes, but didn't have the worn away look. The point of tattoo aftercare is to keep that tat lookin fresh and new, not worn. BUT, I also like it worn because it reminds me of the process of how it was cracked/peeling and your tat care kit would help keep it lookin fresh. So, I'm not sure that helps, but those are two perspectives on that font. And having tats myself, I really like the idea of your product and this font it cool.
I'm not a huge fan of when you have vegan hanging above tattoo aftercare; I think it works a lot better when those three words are all on one line together. I also really like the placement of the type on the bottom right design and top left. I feel it works better to read. BUT I don't think the letters should be different sizes B, k, S, etc.
Lookin real good =)
hey veronica-
this looks really awesomeeeeee!! i like the little heart thats formed.... so cute. i agree with jackie on the logo color and the logo itself not needing the lettering on the petals. i feel like people will get the idea from when they see the name below it.
as for the info below the logo, is it possible to have it read:
black lotus
botanicals
vegan tattoo aftercare
...basically what you have already only putting "black lotus" together on one line. and then this all would be below the logo. maybe that would help balance it out?
as for the typeface........ im not too into papyrus. but i understand where youre coming from. i like that it seems more earthy and gives it a warmer (not the right word but you get the idea) feel. maybe if you were to write it yourself; keeping it solid and neat, yet incorporating that earthy, fresh feel? i hope that all made sense... haha.
niceeee job!!!!
see ya on tuesday!!!!
I agree that i like the blue flower in the middle the best. For the writing i think it'd be better also to go with a lighter font but still solid like danielle says, and kinda like it better when you can tell its an L on the middle to keep it balanced with the other two letters.
I really like the blue-ish tinged logomark the best. I think it looks really cool
hey veronica!
wow - great work on this. such a nice shading and coloring, too! i am impressed.
i think you did a good job in capturing and communicating the essence of your product. as the others said, it gives you the idea right away.
i think you can either skip the letters in the flower or you should make them thinner. i see that you want to refer to tatoo art with the font you chose, but really, it is not necessary and kind of hard to read - especially the L in the middle.
for the font of the actual name in your logo i like the one upper right the best. for me it has a "clean" but appealing look to it and that's what your products are all about. :)
i am looking forward to see the end result! :)

I think I'd consider ditching the letterforms in the petals. Most all of the tattoo-looking letterforms don't hold up very well at a small size, so when you reduce the mark they end up being hard to read. And the mark looks good w/o it—it looks like a piece of tattoo flash…so, that's a good thing.
For the type, definitely avoid Papyrus like the plague. :) I'd stick with something more simple and sans serif that still has a bit of unique character to it. It will balance out the mark well, as even though it is somewhat detailed, it still has a fairly simple, uniform feel to it. And keeping the type simple will work well with that. I'd also consider keeping "Black" and "Lotus" on the same line…
